As we’ve touched on in our other posts, the SfN’s annual meeting in Washington DC this November (the 41st as a matter of fact) is a behemoth! In order to get the most out of the event, one has to go in with a gameplan, or else you’ll look like a first-year PhD student during the first rotation looking in a fridge when a PostDoc told you to look in the -80. Here are some tips to plan your trip to the 2011 SfN meeting.
1. Neuroscience Meeting Planner - Great tool to help you get started. You can browse what’s going on by the SfN lecture title, the day, the presenter, etc. This way you can get the most out of the conference.
2. Create an Itinerary. If you can create an account on the SfN site, you can put your whole conference schedule in one place. For instance, if you want to go to the History of Neuroscience lecture entitled “Neurodegenerative Diseases: The Path to Therapy” talk given by A.B. Young, you can find the session by browsing and then click “Add to Itinerary” to put it in your schedule.
3. Floorplan for the convention center – Want a birds-eye view of things before you even enter the building? This map allows you to make sure you know where you’re going after you’ve picked out your favorite SfN talks, SfN poster sessions, etc.
The key to success at a conference like Neuroscience 2011 is to not get overwhelmed. The three P’s (People, Posters, and Presentations) will be ubiquitous, so try to plan effectively to organize what you need to see. Is it any surprise that Quartzy promotes good organization?! So set your SfN itinerary and learn away!
Happy planning!
